    223 six and auto trans?

I have a 54 f100 with the stock sixer in it still, but it has a 3 spd man. trans, what auto transmission that is readily available will fit without too much modification?

    I see.......
The wife had a hard enough time accepting the newest member of the family, I couldn't imagine what she would say or do if I told her we needed to drop an IFS set up in it and new motor/trans combo. To install a newer motor, I would have to put in a new crossmember anyway right? Why stop there? Heh heh, hey honey, gues what.........I guess I could always cut in a floor shifter so my new column would fit huh?

54f100guy, I think you're going to have to find an old Fordamatic trans for the six. I don't believe in of the current auto transmissions will bolt up to the 223. I could be wrong.

That motor was used in cars up to 64,the early C-4 might have been made to fit that six. The fordomatics are similar to the later FMX,both trans have removable bellhousings so you might be able to take the bellhousing, flywheel and torque convertor from the fordomatic and use the later FMX trans. The reason I mentioned this is the older fordomatic starts out in second when in drive and on the later FMX when in drive it goes the normal 1 2 and 3

Thanks, the guys at transmission adapters will be releasing one next year. No dice this year.
Guess I could stretch the interior mods out another year. That hemi is looking sweeter by the moment.......
