Motorcraft Amp Question
Greetings, just joined up, and have a question about a motorcraft amp. Number is d6ae 12a199 a2b. Any idea of the year, or application, or (hopefully) a wiring diagram. 40roadking introduced me to this forum, and asked a question for me prior.
Thanks
Tom

The Ford "blue grommit" module is the most common of the early elctronic Ford modules. It has two plugs coming off of it. One plug has two wires, red & white. The other plug has four wires, purple, orange, green, & black.
Wiring is as follows
Red - 12 volts when ignition is on
White - 12 volts when cranking
Purple & orange to Hall Effect Sensor in distribitor, factory Ford
has like colored wires off distribitor
Green - Neg side (Tach Side) of coil
Black - Ground, but also hooks into distribitor in factory wiring
The white wire retards ignition timing when starting, it also hooks to Pos side of coil to deliver 12 V, when running coil only gets 6 V
The white wire can be left unhooked without causing any problems, unless your initail timing is set very high. I've been told it can also be used to retard timing for nitrious, but have no idea how well it would work.John
Topless & loving it

Luck
Just happened to hit on something I know. I run a blue grommet box on just about everything. I can convert to it quicker than I can change points. Never can find that feeler guage anymore. Always thought you coud replace it with a GM 4 pin module though, performance GM modules are a lot cheaper than the other options for mor power such as MSD.
If you drop the white retard wire and the black ground (GM module bodies are grounded) that just leaves four connections. GM's use the Hall effect sensor in there setup too. For that matter I bet it would work the same on Dodge or most anything else. Every factory distribitor I every looked at had either points or a Hall Effect sensor. But alas (and I know this could upset a few people) price is why so many hot rods are Chevy powered when there are so many other great combos out there.
Wow, that is sweet! The woodwork is gorgeous.
