Roadster Pickup gets new kingpins and bushings

Today is one of those bad news/good news days. Bad news is----got no design work, job is held up untill I visit job site tomorrow. Good news is, I just installed new kingpins and bushings in the 40 Ford spindles on the roadster pickup. Not exactly a cheap proposition---$51 for kingpin and bushing kit, $8 tax, and $10 for shipping to my house from hotrod supplier 100 miles from here, then $69 to get old bushings pressed out and new bushings installed and reamed.---Is it worth $138 to have a safe, steerable car that doesn't shimmy?---you bet your butt it is.---All wheel bearings are packed, nuts that hold backing plates on are all torqued and cotter pinned, spindle nuts are cotter pinned, drag link and Pitman arm nuts are cotter pinned. While I was under the car anyway, I got out the "zero rust chassis black" paint and painted all the mild steel brakelines and trany cooler lines and touched up all the ugly welds that have been added as the chassis evolves. Yesterday I had the guy from the muffler shop accross town stop by and bid me a complete exhaust system from the manifolds back, 2 1/4" pipes with dual glasspacks, crossover, and 3" diameter tips at the rear and all hangers---he wants $570, I offered him $500, now we negotiate.
