The 390 is probably a bolt in swap. The 460 would be the best choice as there is no substitute for cubic inches, has a lot of torque and at this point it most likely has the best support of aftermarket suppliers. The 289, unless you were to put a supercharger on it, would be a little underpowered. The 351M is good for nothing more than a boat anchor.

    Hope that helps, good luck.

Used to have a '57, had a 390 with a 4 speed. Worked great. Lots of companies have FE parts, Edelbrock has aluminum heads for it. If money isn't any object, check out Shelby and Dove for aluminum blocks, heads, and intakes. All the cam companies have valve train peices for them.

Had the car a long time ago.... If I remeber correctly I used stock passenger car mounts on the block and fabricated the mounts on the crossmember. Sorry, my '57 was a lot of years and projects back. A '66 Galaxie donated a buch of parts for the swap.....Think I built the car in the mid 70's, my memory is having a good day if I can remember what I had for lunch !!!!!

Never had but one Ford-- 31-- and the whole drive line was Chevy
But a 57 has always caugh my eye. A 390 ,406, 427 just sounds right for the car. of course it has to have a 4-speed. I could also be tempted with a 60 or 61 Starliner.

thanks for the replies, is there any source to find out what fits and what interchanges. classic chevies are a breeze to do but ford seems like not much info out there to find out to plan ahead for the project?
