hELP REMOVING SPINDLE ADAPTER BUSHING
I have a 46 1/2 ton. The front spindles have adaptor bushings to match with F-1 brakes. I need to get the bushings off the inner bearing journal, to put on a Wilwood Disc kit. They won't budge. Tried heating with a propane torch without effect, and am ready to take the spindles into a machine shop unless there is a better and more inexpensive way. Any suggestions?

a die grinder, hammer & a chisel. cyt a grove as deep as u can across it & take the chisel put it in the grove & hit it w/the hammer. it should split open, which will loosen it & should slide off....joeDonate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE

Joe, I will give that a try tomorrow. Sure don't want to ruin the spindles. The bushing pretty much butts to the face of the spindle so won't be able to make groove all the way across. Maybe part way across will allow enough split to loosen it up.

Bushing may have been a heat shrink fit,,,propane torch won't be enough to do it cos the spindle will siphon the heat too fast,,,Hit it with Oxy Acet,,,real quick,,,bushing will take most of the heat,,get the temperature up quickly and it should pull off easier."I don't know everything and i like it that way"

I wimped out today and took the spindles into town. First stop was an automotive machine shop. The man looked at it and said I should take it down the street to the general machine shop and have them run a weld bead down the center of the bushing and around the circumference. He said that should warp the bushing and it should come right off. Went down the street and they agreed that it should work. Will pick them up tomorrow and let you know what was done and how it worked. Mike

The spindle bushings did not come off for the machinist after he welded a bead around their circumference. So he built the bead up a little more, and put the assembly into a Clam vise, and then used a press to get them off.
I was worried about how the journals underneath the bushings would look, both because I couldn't remember them before the bushing install, and wondered if the putting on and taking off of the bushing scored them up. But they look great.
The shop only charged $20!

Joe, its good it was a good deal, because I had to go back to the machinist, this time for decreasing the thread diameter on the brake clevis. It was too large for the pushrod supplied with the adapter.
And, I likely will have to go back AGAIN with the adapter in hand for mod. The adaptor and MC, when mounted, has the rearend of the MC hanging down way low compared to the frontend of the MC. I returned it to the maker but think there is a 50% chance he will return it, saying it is to specs.
Havent even gotton to the discs yet. Somehow I knew this was not going to be smooth. Guess just too many adaptations.

Hellhole of the Midwest
Joe, If you dont mind my asking, where is the hellhole? Or at least where is it close to? We moved here to southern Oregon from what I thought was the true Hellhole, Oxford, Kansas.

the weather issssssss, well it like this, IF ya dont like it normally if u just wait 10 minutes it'll change. the taxes, well we have the 2nd highest in the state but only see a fraction of it. just like taxes our ours is about 2nd highest in the state. &&&& where is Cahokia located????? in the Mississippi River Bottoms right across from St Louis, soooooo when it's hot & humid

see you just happen to be the BIGGER picture of the HELLHOLE, as most of us who have lived in the central states know, weather can change so fast that in the moring u can be wearing ur winter stuff & by the time u go home u wished u had wore shorts & a t-shirt or visa-versa & the humidity can be so high that u think its raining....
i did a 47 3ton a few years back & made it into a flat bed. i ended up having a M/C adaptor because no one made one for it & was lucky enuff to have a guy swap me some car spindles for my truck ones, yepppppp car spindle will fit the trucks up 3ton & use the same king pins .. to make the adaptor all i did was took measurement off the back of the stock M/S & the new M/C & gave them to a friend at a machine shop. he made it 1/2inch thick & drilled & threaded all the holes for me worked great.....
