    Schpeen,

Having started a 32 highboy project that is still in work, I have a couple of suggestions. First, sit down and list all the features and attributes that you want in your car. What is the theme of the car (nostalgic, billet, rat rod, traditional, etc). Then list the stuff that you have preferences on like the engine, transmission, rear end, etc. If you have pictures of a car style (or a car) that you like, it would be helpful. Be honest about your budget, dont specify a hemi if you can only afford a Pinto 4.

Second, decide what your goal is regarding price. You can build a nice car for $40,000 but you can build a really nice car for $140,000. Be prepared to tell your selected vendor how much the project should cost......and ask for his input regarding cost. Most inportant, of that cost decision, is to identify how detailed the car needs to be.....is it driver or a higher end car that wins "best in show"?

Next, dont just shop for the "closest" builder. There are a wide variety of folks who would love to build a car for you. But, just like a contractor building a house, each has a unique approach.

Look around and ask around. Travis and Kenny build really nice cars. Kenny has an eye for detail that is impressive. Also, dont be afraid to talk to the higher end guys (like Kenny) even if you want a lower cost car....tell them what you want. I recently talked to a guy who bought a $125K highboy from a lower quality builder.....he could have gone first class for less!
