CD Player and Suspension Q's on Impala

    1.
I've got a 66 Impala. Big Car. Lots of places to put the speakers. I was thinking under the front seats in seperate boxes and actually cutting into the back behind the rear seats and putting speakers in under the rear window.

My question is rather technical i suppose. Sure you can power up the cd player and all but I remember when i installed the same cd player in my '99 Hyundai Accent that the cd player Pioneer 5500 (whatever the cd-mp3 file reader model was) had a wire labelled "Illumination" or something like it that meant it controlled how bright the face was with the rest of the interior lights, my question is this. How can I wire that up to my dimmer switch in (or would I even want to since the lights are so dim in my car anyways) ?

If i left the illumination wire unconnected will it just display one level of brightness (i.e. the brightest or normal setting?). If i can do it without having to worry about the illumination, i'd have wired the cd player up into that car a while back.

Problem driving fast: It feels like i'm fighting the wind all the time once I hit 55 and above, my friend tells me i'm not swerving or anything but you can really feel the wind pushing my car around and i have to "fight my suspension" as my friend put it. What's going on here? I'd like to have a smooth ride.

Just a thought,,,check to see that all your tires are The same.....Radials,,,or bias Ply,,,,,,i had the same problem a while back when i bought a 64 Thunderbird,,,the rear's were Bias ply's and the Fronts were Radials,,,,the car was all over the place on the highway,,,,I didn't even look when i bought the car......after i bought two more radials to replace the rears,,,everything was OK.

Yeah all the tires are the same brand and stuff. I bought new tires when I got the car since it had vintage ones that were hard as frickin rocks.

come to think of it, I think it could be air pressure gone awry. Its late at night and the car is in the parking deck near my dorm so. I ain't goin out there. I'll check it tommorow let you know the results and if that doesn't fix, I don't know whats wrong.

Get a friend to waggle the steering wheel back and forth for you,,while you look under the car at the tie rods, the steering box, pitman arm,,,and ball joints, also,,jack up each front wheel and check for excessive wheel play in the bearings,, grab the top and bottom of the tire and try waggle in and out,,,if they move more than a wee bit,,you need to take the grease caps off and tighten,,,not to tight,,,just snug,,and back off an eighth of a turn, or until you can get the pin back in.
    Just guessing at this point.

The lights are dim because the switch is either worn out or dirty. If you can afford a new one I'd replace it. You could then tap into the terminal that controls the dash lights.
