muffler suggestions
I'm running a 402 chevy with headers and 2 1/2" collectors. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on mufflers that sound really good. I want it to have a real aggressive deep tone, I want to hear it too.
I'll be making a dual exhaust.
any opinions???

The shorter the exhaust the more bass under the car. Some things that mellow it out are crossover pipe, position of mufflers dia. and length of pipe. An engine needs some backpressure to be efficient ,so y not take advantage of that ? Some one once told me that engineering is the science of compromise. You gain one thing by letting something else go.Choose your battles well===If it dont go chrome it

I'm gonna go out the side for the outlet, right in front of the rear tire. I've heard you should angle the pipes slightly toward the ground instead of parallel to the ground.

W/o tail pipes chances are you will not be able to carry on a coversation or hear the stereo.....DonDon Meyer, PhD-Mech Engr(48 GMC Trk/chopped/cab extended/caddy fins & a GM converted Rolls Royce Silver Shadow).

you mean if I take them out the side instead of the back?
the reason I'm going out the side is because it is a 50 truck. I have it lowered to the point where I don't think there will be close to enough room for the exhaust to get over the axle and have adequate clearance with the wooden bed.

Flowmasters are nice for that low sound. It all depends. We have flowmasters on our Chevy truck and we had them straight out the back like everyone else but then hated that so cut them and them both down at the ground right at the differential but it make the in the cab more quiet now even though it's closer and even outside and not sure why. I have glasspacks (yeah good ol' fashion) under my 66 and that thing sound GOOOOD IMO.www.streamlineautocare.com
