A/C question
I am looking at buying a mitsubishi SA 430 compressor for my fat fender Plymouth sedan. Will this be big enough to keep it cold?

Hey Yankey, I cringe at this because A/C that works well is DESIGNED not patched together. You can have soooo many problems patching one together. It is far, Far, FAR, harder to do right than build an engine and get it running correctly.
A/C is like walking a balance beam carrying a glass of water.
I understand A/C very well and I would not attempt a patch together.
What I would do is find a vehicle who's A/C would work for you then tear the whole system out and use it. Then you know the dryer style will work. That the low pressure cut out is set about right, that the condenser is large enough and not too large. That the reciever wont be too small. That the evaporator won't freeze up on you constantly, and that the compressor isn't over or under rated.
Make sure you use a 134A system too.

I plan I using a kit like from Vintage Air or the like. I am just trying to keep the cost down.

patched together A/C
I disagree w/Kcress: A/C is A/C, no matter who makes it. You can use components from various vehicles to make a complete system, I have with no huge problems. He's right about using a complete system from a car if you can get it, or buying a Vintage or Southern Air system, but what fun is that? This way, you will KNOW your system completely, since YOU BUILT IT..Your choice: spend the credit card or figure it out and do is "frugally"..
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
