glass packs
Aight I know that glass packs were in like the 60's but i really wanna bring out my cars rumble and I already have straight pipes all the way back and I know that I need to get headers to help too but I wanna know if glasspacks will help me out or hurt me? If anyone can help me out i would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Help efficiency, no. Turbo mufflers were long ago shown to be better. But your concern is sound. Glasspacks will sound cool, but will change tone (worse) over time. If you had been in Illinois, I recall they are technically illegal. If I were you, I'd ask about what turbo-style mufflers guys use these days in relation to good sound. They will stay consistent. The original '66 GTO had a great idle with an OEM muffler system. Assuming you have a pure-stock motor with original cam, it probably sounds more like a motorboat right now. There'll be only so much you can do, as you have found. I had a stock '71 326 LeMans awhile back with turbo-style mufflers and that sounded pretty good. Too bad I don't recall the specific brand/model. Others may have more helpful recommendations.DougB

Atmospheric pressure is aabout 18 pounds per square inch. So a stock engine wont give much response to a open exhaust. Also there are sonic and heat waves from the combustion process that can be used to scavenge exhaust. Things like crossover pipe dia. and length of tubing and placement of muffling device, all change the picture of fuel consumption, performance and exhaaust note. Look at some new cars to see what they have done. Oh and a lot of people still go with the corvair turbo.Choose your battles well===If it dont go chrome it
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
