Cooling Fans IROC Z 1988
HELP!!
Have a 1988 IROC Z with dual electric cooling fans and have chased away my young "mechanics." Fortunately they have not gotten to drive it and may never.
The cooling fans do not come on. But when "hot wired" they both work.
Where/What is the thermostatic "trigger" that switches them on as that seems the most likely problem.
Sadly, my young "mechanics" cut the wires from the fan motor to the first electric connection in order to "hot wire." But there doesn't seem to be any problem in resplicing.
Advice Deeply appreciated!!
Regards,
Jim in Seattle

I have had a fan problem with my 88 IROC also. There are two fan relays on the inner edge of the fender right behind the battery, like an oval shaped cylinder about 3" long. They are likely to fail, as is the temp sensor in the head or intake. Did they come on at one time, but dont anymore? They typically dont come on till the engine is really hot, about 220 degrees or so. the terminals on those relays also corrode, so make sure they're clean. When your dreams turn to dust, Vacuum!

I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
