Check your gear box oil levels !!!!
working on the T/A for the last while and i put rear axle seals in and rear brakes. I thought while i'm refiling the rearend i might as well change the oil in the trans at the same time ( manual ). moved the pan under the trans and pulled the plug, It turns out i really didnt even need the pan because i dont think even a cup of oil came out . i think i was fortunate enough to catch it in time because the magnetic drain plug only had the usuall sludge on it and not loads of shavings So in the end , check your oil levels ,dont just assume their goodLast edited by 53 Chevy5; 05-02-2005 at 07:49 PM.

Thanks for the reminder. Right now I have a guy looking for an AOD or overdrive tranny for my 302 in my truck and I have the original 66 crappy 3 speed in it and I am going to change the fluids in it real soon until I get the other tranny in because I am sure the guy before me never did nothing to that either. The oil in the crank of the engine was black and clumpy so that goes to show you. I had to throw a ton of sea foam in it, supreme gas in it (94 octane), etc just because of that and I am sure the tranny fluid is in the same shape. How often do you change those fluids anyways and how do I know how much to put in?www.streamlineautocare.com

how often do you change the oils? why every 27 yrs of course according to the last time the T/A's was done serioiusly i really dont know, if it sits around alot i would say every couple years to get rid of the moisture, if its driven alot i would say every 50k or so.
as for how full, there is usually a check plug about half way up on anything that takes gear oil.Seth

Ok thanks Chevy. I figured there was a screw or bolt to take out for the check. That is how it is on motorcylces and dirtbikes and figured it would be the same. And for SOME ODD reason you can always tell which bolt or screw is the one to check the fluid level even though there are others just like it hahaha.www.streamlineautocare.com
