Need a good restorer in S CA
Hello,
I am new to the Big Block world. I had a 67 Camaro in high school that I loved working on, but that was a long time ago.
About a year ago I bought a 69 Mach 1 R-code. It was running, but overeating a lot. Through a fiend I met a guy who restores Mustangs, and offered to help me do it in his off time. So I stared tearing the car apart, and am ready to pull the engine and get started, but the guy has been a flake.
Can anyone out there point me to someone who knows mustangs in the San Fernando Valley who woul be willing to teach and restore at the same time? I want to learn about engine building while I restore this car, which is why I don't want to just hire a restoration shop to do it all. Obviously I would pay for he help.
I am also looking for a good 428 block, date coded from 68 if anyone has a lead on that.
Thanks,
Steve

Ask the guys at www.fordfe.com if no one can help you here. There is a guy there selling a 69 CJ block in the classifieds. You can also ask Dennis Carrilo at www.dscmotorsport.com. He stocks a few CJ blocks also and might have something. He might also know of someone to help out and also ask the fordfe.com guys. There are a few Ca guys there also. Oops just saw you need a 68 date code sorry. Whats wrong with your current CJ block?? You can sleeve it for about the price of another CJ block if it's beyond .060 and worn out.

Thanks for the info on DSC. I found the block I need.
As for the engine that is in the car currently, I'm pretty sure in isn't a CJ block. When I bought the car no one could find any of the usual markings. If it turns out to be the original block, then at least I'll have a spare.
Part of the reason I am looking for someone to help me restore this beast, is to use some of that knowledge while I learn.
Thanks,
Steve

Cool glad it worked out for you. Some guys search endlessly for a block with the right numbers. Does your block have vertical ribs on both sides??? If so it's a 70's service replacement block. These have no casting number or "C" on the back. The date code will have two dots under the first number. Just a guess if there are no other tell tale CJ markings. G.
