    Question rear end problems

     



    Anyone have an idea on what type of rear I can swap out .that will provide extra rim and tire space with out tubbing out?I have the original rear still in the car

    tubbing is done to be able to get bigger wider tires "tucked" under the rear ..........? ......... so what are you looking for ?
    changing the rearend will not help in any way to fit /tuck/squeeze bigger tires or rims under a ride ? " not much to count for anything, anyway"

    you could shakle it "WAY" up ? I guess,,, but then you'll have one of them 70 ? scorpion look'N cars "where the dogs could sleep on a hot day? .

    maybe some one else can tell ya more ?

    Question

     



    I'm talking about putting a shorter rear to put a nice deep dish rim on.Which rear can I swap out with this one?Any Ideas

    What treekiller is trying to tell you is that when the engineers at Chevy designed the car, they were thinkin' trunk space, not deep dish rims, so the space between the inner fender panels and the outer panels was designed for a relatively narrow rim and tire. In order to go much wider, you have to alter the inner panels. This is called mini-tubbing. If you want really wide rims and tires, you must cut into the trunk floor area/frame and tub the car, using a much shorter flange-to-flange axle housing.

    Aren't there some offset (to the inside) rims that might gain 2 inches or so max - at lease on my Nova, that's all thats available before hitting shock mounts - which leads to tubbing.

    I suppose coils springs are also part of the necessary mods for the narrowed rear-end.

    OR downsize to 13in reversed rims like you see on the imports.

    I have a 55chevy 2dr sedan.I had to tub back to the frame to fit the smallest mickey thompsons under the the wheel wells. You then can use a S10 rear end . I used a four link with coil overs , but they make a kit to move the springs into the frame rails. the springs will be in the way if you leave them in the stock location. Carl
