    Question Steer Joint Help needed

    Hi

Can anyone help me? I am trying to find a very specific steering universal joint.

It need to be to fit a 5/8” 36 spline shaft (ie GM , Vega, post 79 rack , etc ) on both ends and made from forged steel. Secured by a pinch bolt.

I have attached a photograph of what I am talking about

You may wonder why I don’t just use a billet. Well it is to replace a period part on a vintage car and I don’t want it to look out of place.

I am based in the UK and can find nothing of this size over here. However I am sure that there is a stock GM part that would be ideal. I just have no way of finding out what it is!

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

Its actually an Austin Healey which has had the steering coloumn modified back in the 60's.

It seem to be though that it is the only car outside the US that uses that shaft and spline size. Go figure !

The Deuce Factory used to sell a U-Joint like that.

It had bushings instead of needle bearings and only lasted a few years.

A Borgeson or Flaming River is a much better replacement and if you paint it, it won't look too out of place.

If the steering shaft is modified already, then a different U-joint shouldn't look too far out of place.

I don't know if you have access to American cars in the UK junkyards, but some of them have the U-joint you're looking for although you need to be careful that it's not a 3/4" - 36.
