Check to see if the cable is broke, sometimes they don't get lubed properly and bind up and break the cable.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

What controls the tach? what cable?. Is it the one off the trans? I thought that was the speedometer cable. Could it be the circuit board? They have new ones at eckers for $ 59 would that do it?

Well, you said the tach was mechanically driven....so it would be the cable from the distributor to the tach. If it is not a mechanincal tach, but rather an electric tach then you either have a bad connection or a bad tachometer.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
