Need more vacuum!
Hi;Little out of the area here I suppose but working on a Motorhome with a 460 ford. Can't maintain enough vacuum to operate the controls for the heater etc.On hard pull the vacuum drops off and they go to a default position until can let up on throttle then vacuum comes back up and all is OK.Have had this same situation in cars with vacuum operated heater contols but just ignored it there. Is there some kind of pump that could be instaled to provide a little additional vacuum? As I remember my Olds diesel had some kind of pump to supply vacuum but I have no idea what was involved and that was long ago. Will get it to shop that has better equipment than I have to verify there is no leak involved too.Any thoughts would be appreciatted.

You can buy reservoir's and you can get electrical pumps as well. I'd make sure that you give it a good tune up and check the timing and such and make sure you don't have a vacuum leak to begin with, then go from there. Also, check ALL of your vacuum lines and make sure you don't have any leaks. If it is an automatic, check your modulator line and make sure it is not leaking (does it shift ok?). Spray some carb cleaner around the intake and carb base and such and see if your RPM's change. If they change, you have a leak...just be careful with that cleaner, you don't want to start a fire.Last edited by 53fatfndr; 06-20-2005 at 09:39 AM.
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
