    cooling question

i have the 454 in a second gen camaro, was wanting to run on the street with only an electric fan. buddy told me today that ill never get away with it. he said that the electric fan just wont keep it cool. i have seen some monster fans in jegs and summit, but they also require monster money. i have about 120.00 to budget toward this. what do you guys think??

p.s. i have a tranny cooler that has its own seperate fan already. if that makes any difference.

    thanks

thanks for the info, lots of interesting stuff in there. the price is right for the fan but having to switch to a different alternator doesn't entice me at the moment. anybody else have any firsthand experience here. does anybody know the difference in cooling effectiveness between belt driven and electric?

Belt drive is reliable as a rock. You need belts anyway, one thing more or less won't matter much. Save your money, buy a flex fan instead. Electric fans are for japcrap.

i have used the electric fans but the belt works good .you can try both the stock electric fan and a belt type fan? if you have the room you could use both at ilde .you can get some nice electric fan stuff at the bone yard off a gm front wheel drive car or use two small fan off a inport make sure you use 30 amps relays for the fans if you use two fans use two relays

Run a wide blade stainless flex fan.
5-6 blades work well and it's not too noisy.

Belt driven fans pull a lot more air than does an electric.

I feel strongly enough about this that I pulled the crossmembers out of my new at the time Deuce Factory 32 frame, built and installed new ones so I could set the engine back 2" which allowed the use of a mechanical fan on the 462" Buick engine.
