    Dave S Some Tri-power thoughts

Decided to be a nice guy and not hijack the cooling thread .

It's just me, but I'm not a big fan of Holleys. There are some options other than the stock ford carbs and linkage. The FE tri-power intakes lend themselves pretty well to be modified for Rochesters. I ran this setup on my T Bird for about 5 years before I sold the car and kept the Tri-Power .

Its a Pontiac large base 2bbl from a 400 CI engine (built in electric choke) and small base outboards. The only mods to the manifold were redrilling for the different carb base bolt pattern and a little blending of the throats for the throttle plates. Basically the Holley carbs could be reinstalled and no one would no the difference.

The air cleaner is one of the PAW chrome units (about $50) that is a knock off old the Ford Tri-power/Dual quad units, even takes the same filter. They only come in dual quad and single quad versions so I had to modify the base for it. Total height is very close to original.

Only down side is the Front carb sits VERY close to the distributor and you have to run something small like a Mallory (if you do this have the distributor in place when you figure the placement for the front carb.)

Personally, I like the looks better than running holleys as the fuel bowls face foward, the fuel lines are on the right and the linkage is on the left.

On the T-Bird IT RAN GREAT, its new home is going to be my 64 Ford Custom.

I do like that look, Mike. I'm no big Holley Fan either. The Rochester look very clean on the FE Tri-Power manifold. Certainly do appreciate the advise. If I kick around deep in some of the corners in the warehouse I would imagine I could find some of those big base Rochester carbs, only took a couple hours of searching to find a half dozen of the small base Rochesters for the Nailhead. I do have a brand new still in the box left over from the dark ages Mallory Dual Point for an FE. It would be plenty small enough to clear the front carb. Thanks for the help.

Yeah hat's what this one is running. When it goes ion the 64 I'm going to switch it to a uni-lite which is the same size and cap.

I have heard, (but haven't checked into it yet) that you can just by the conversion kit tto change the dual point over.

I put a Petronix conversion in a distributor awhile back. For curiousity, I looked at the old Mallory Dual point, the electronics could be made to fit in there. They are a simple system that seem to work fine.

Yea good idea about the thread hijack LOL. Dave I can send you a bunch of pics and measurements of mine if you need them. It's all original and I have a C3 dual point dizzy. I knew it would fit with no issues plus I had it already. Even then there is only 1 1/4" from the top of the cap to the base of the aircleaner. And like 3/8" from the back of the cap to the front of the carb linkage.

That would be great, G. Everything is still in the planning and parts finding stages now anyway. Thanks

My son is coming over sunday to do some ebay stuff for me. I'll take a bunch of pics and send them to you. Just send me your email in a pm or something. I think I have it but I'm not very good about putting a contact name with them. G.

I put a Petronix conversion in the Mallory dual point in my '66 Mustang. Works great, much better than the points.

Their factory 60-64 Ford full size. They usually show up on E Bay on a regular basis, but are a bit ion the pricy side.

    This about average
