Yep there are many horror stories from these places.
I worked at a new car dealership for a while and helped write service orders. A young lady had purchased a brand new Dodge BR2500 with a Cummins engine. At two weeks she decided not to follow our advise and have the truck serviced where she bought it and opted for the less expensive oil change at a very well known superstore with a tire and lube express. Before all was said and done she was limping the truck to us with the oil pressure light and alarm buzzing. We could see the oil spraying out from under the truck and it turned out that the superstore had used the wrong type filter and there was a gap about 1\8 inch between the filter top and housing. And yes they all act as if they didnt notice the oil when first cranking, but that diesel was putting out a serious amount of fluid.......come on......we really arnt idiots. Any way that store ended up buying a new engine for that ladies truck. I WILL NOT trust any of those type places to even air up my tires, not to mention oil!
We managed to get a couple of other small things taken care of. One was blacking out the front of the core support. When the sun hit the front of the car just right that green paint on the core...
