    too much power assist

Gentelman, I have a 48 GMC & a ROLLS silver Shadow. They both have GM G-body IFS.

I have used this suspension before & find that the steering has too much power assist. Has anyone reduced the pump pressure w/good results?

    thanks Don

Heidt's makes an adjustable power steering valve. I'm not sure if this is what you might be looking for though.

Suggest you call a p.s. rebuilder and ask.

    Our local one is http://www.magillsquality.com/

They will do a box for under $100 that has the ratio and effort that you want.

I was going to get a rebuilt box so buying one that will take more effort to turn the steering sounds like a perfect solution.

I contacted NAPA & their supplier can not do it. Today I'll look at lstings in the Orlando telco book for a rebuilder.

    Thanks Don
Ps-I've heard mixed comments about adjustable presure valves. I've never tryed one because off that.

Don, I'd be very intrested to find out how this turns out, so could you keep us posted?

I've run into the the same thig I think your talking about a few times primarly on the 57-62 MOPARS, the steering is so assisted that their is no road feel.

The last one of these cars that I built for myself was a 57 Dodge that I was running a latter modle Saginaw pump on. The pump was rated at about 15 more PSI than the original Chrysler pump had. After I had it together I had the opportunity to do some comparisons with the 3 cars with the original Chrysler pumps on them. As far as I could tell there was no disernable difference in the feel.

I'd be really interested to know how far you have to lower the pressure to actually make a difference.
