48 ford coupe flathead (temp problem)

I built a 48 ford and one thing I can not get to work is the temp gage or the sending unit in the block. I think it is the sending unit. Does anyone know where to get a replacement? My flathead only has one on the drivers side of the block. Or does anyone know how to trouble shoot if the sending unit is working. Also looking for directions on how to put the wipers back in to the car.

    Thanks for your help

    Tim

I'm sure that someone here will answer. Or you can try

Either do a search or post a question.

I only have one sending unit?

Thanks Denny for the great info. but on my flathead I only have one hole for one sending unit and the sending unit has two flat pieces of metal coming off of it and at the top of each piece of metal is a small screw. Do I have the wrong sending unit? Is the one I have meant to be with a duel type? will the one I have work if it is by itself and it is not faulty?

Thanks again for all the great info.

Oh, I forgot to say that I switched to a 12Volt wiring system from American Wiring, but I do have all the gages going through a white ceramic voltage drop thingamabob

There is supposed to be a sending unit on both heads and a wire goes from the sending unit on the drivers side over to the pass side,I would put two guages under the dash for acurracy. those old gauges do not work too good as my dads 51 ford seemed to run hot on the guage but with a thermometer in the radiator it ran at a normal temp.
