1949 Ford Panel Truck chassis
We just bought a 1949 Ford Panel Truck to restore. Would like to update the Chassis, would a Ranger or F100 chassis work??? What would you recommend. This is our first project car.

if the stock frame is ok WHY do a frame swap. just update the front & rear suspensions. there are lots of companies
(CLICK HERE) that sell just about any suspension kit u's ever want & the same goes for the rear (CLICK HERE). these will give u an idea what may be out there. also get a stret rod or truck magazine & it'll also have lots of parts places in it. u could also click on my vendors list at the bottom of my post & look through them.......joeDonate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE

Check out your frame real good. the frames from 48-52 Ford pick ups and delivery vans were flexible frames. My 52 frame had many hairline cracks from flexing. A good swap is the Chevy S-10 pick up frame. They come in 3 wheelbases...108, 117, 122. Yes, the Ranger is good also, but you'll have to get a newer one to get independent front suspension. The older ones have the old twin I-beam suspension like in the 70s Ford pick up. The Ranger or S-10 frame will cost about $300 from the junkyard, an IFS from a Mustang or Plymouth will cost about the same from a junkyard but you'll probably want to upgrade it. That means more money spent in aftermarket parts. You can get an IFS from Classic Performance Products, but they're pricey.
