Blue Dots (Tailights)
I currently have 1941-1948 Chevy Tailights installed on my A Bone. I want to add blue dots to the tailights. I checked last night and the lens are made of real glass.
Can the glass be drilled to accept the snap in blue dots? If so, what's the best way to drill witihout breaking the lens?
Thank You in advance for your help.

I don't think you can drill the glass. I think you can buy the glass tail lights that already have the blue dots. Look in Street Rodder Magazine for a place that will carry all those kind of goodies.
Good luck, blue dots are very beautiful!Hot Rods Forever!!!!

I remember the cops making us remove our precious dots, and putting them back as soon as he was out of sight.
A Dremel tool with a carbide bit will drill the lenses, but take it slow and use lots of water.

Thanks, but I know there are suppliers who sell the complete light assembly. I don't want to spend the money on the whole assembly if I can use the dots and if it can be safely drilled without breaking the lens.
Anybody else who has done this before? Your comments will be appreciated!

You should be able to buy just the glass with the blue dot. That shouldnt be too bad. I just replaced a broken glass lense with blue dot in my 47 ford, and it ran me around $15. The whole assemble is pricey, but you should be able to find a blue dot glass lense for under $20. The time you will spend grinding a hole, and keeping it perfectly centered, and not chip the glass edge will be rough.

You can get a pair anytime on ebay for $22.95. All you need do is screw up one of yours drilling a hole and you'll be upside down on the deal. Besides, some day you'll probably wish you had a pair of stockers to put back in.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I ended up buying the lens as Chad and Bob suggested!

put the originals in the glove box. Might save you a ticket..
