    Rear Axle Measurements

I want to change the rear axle in my '39 Dodge. I will either go with a mopar 8 3/4, ford 9 inch, or ford 8 inch. Without going to the junkyards and actually looking, I have no way of finding out what will fit. If anybody can give me some measurements from their rod with these types of rear axles, it would help alot! My stock '39 rear measures 54" from backing plate to backing plate, 60 1/2" from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface, and 46 1/2" center of spring pearch to center of spring pearch. Thanks to all who help!

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the tip. I found a mopar 8 3/4 from a '73 Dodge Charger on ebay. I measured very carefully several times, as did the seller. I bought it, got it home and dropped in right in. Only thing different is the width by about 1 1/2 inches, and had to buy bigger ubolts as the diameter of the housing is bigger.
