Is the VIN for the car on the engine?

I read a comment on an ebay sale, that the VIN was stamped on the floor next to the battery box. Well, the floor is way, way gone. Had I known the VIN was there, I would have been more careful while tearing out the floor, and looked for it. However, I don't think it would have made a difference, there was just not much left. The seats litterally pulled right out, and there was no battery box whatsoever.

Anyway.. any advice you can give for tracking down the VIN would be greatly appreciated. I do have the cowl tag, which is a small plus...
