    what transmision to use

When the blown 392 is finished I need a other transmision.
The old 1957 torqueflite won't hold I think.
    1957 Imperial
    I prefer a 4 or 5 speed with lockup.
I will do some towing with a 6500 pound
    Trailor.
There are diverend adaptor plates ready made for the 393.
What is the best transmision to use and what transmision has the least internall power loss.
I prefer an overdrive for a bit more topspeed.
And smaller range between 1 st 2nd and 3th.
    Now 1st is 2.45-1 2nd1.45-1 3th 1-1
    with a 3-18 -1 final drive and 255/75/15 tires.
    Thanks

These guys used to make adapters for the early hemi, but I'm not sure if they still do. Email them and ask, or maybe one of the other members on here will know of a matchup with a later box.

    Thanks for the link.
The trans adaptor is not a big problem .
If I have to I can make one it only takes a lot of time.

But what is the best trans to use with the least internal loss and capable of towing.
I an also concidering a BMW 5 speed from a 850 I V 12 engine but that trans is complete electronic controled and the parts are verry expencive .
I would prefer a american transmision.

A 727 off a 318/360 will bolt on, but you have to buy or build a flex-plate adapter.

You can use a 46RH/46RE transmission. They are also called 518. Essentially what it is, is a 727 with an overdrive unit. They have the 318/360 bolt pattern. They came out in 1988 or 89. Up to 95, they had a mechanical governor. 96 on up, they had a sensor and a soleniod that acted as a governor. Both styles use a computer though the 46RH, only 4th and lock up is computerized. On the 46 RE, all gear shifts and lock up are computerized. Also, both versions still use throttle pressure via a linkage to control shift feel. Just like an old 727/904.

Take a look at the GM 700r4 it is a 4 speed auto. Low gear is 3.06 4th gear is overdrive @ .7 Now it can be used with or with out a lock up converter. I have 1 in my hot rod with a 3.73 rear, 2500 stall speed and the lock up. It will accelerate very good in low then cruise in OD with the converter locked. It works great for me. They use them in a lot of trucks and corvettes.
