    Saw blades for thick steel

Does anyone know of ' any ' type of hand operated saw that will cut 1/4" steel? I have a cutting torch and I have a grinder but I need to make cuts in areas where I can't use these. I have air saws, electric saws but not having done much frame or structural work I don't know if there are blades available that can cut 1/4 steel.

Any particular type or brand sawzall blade that is out there that has teeth that will survive after the first 1" of cutting?

I usually try and get the milwaukee blades they seem to last a little longer, but I've had decent luck with the Ace Hardware house brand, long as ya don't get the bargain basements you'll be O.K.

Keep the speed of the saw done. The heat from too fast of blade speed will kill a blade quicker than anything.

Also you can get metal cut discs for a 7 1/4 circular saw ,but they burn up quick & make lots of sparks, just like a chop saw

and try not to bind the sawzall or saw. the blade will bend and it take out the set on the teeth of the blade

I use a 4.5" grinder with a cut off wheel for most of my metal cutting needs.

use a recip saw with variable speed, and run it slow. It also helps to spray the blade with WD 40 while cutting. If the blade is smoking the oil, then you're getting it too hot.

I had to cut through a 1" stainless steel flange once, about 6" long. It took six blades and a can of WD. ( had a helper spray while I cut ) but the job got done.
