    smallblock into 49-50 plymouth

     



    i want to install a 327 and auto trans into my 49 plymouth suburban. any help with steering box clearance and other problems would be appreciated. also realize a rear end swap is also part of the change thanks

    You'll have to offset the engine to the passenger side a few inches if you're not going to do a front clip. Just be sure to keep the 'shaft parallel to the frame rails, don't "aim" the trans toward the rear end.

    i've been told that the original front suspension is a good one to keep, any thoughts? also what about a rack and pinion to clear the swap? the car is an excellent resto rod candidate. i thought about keeping with a hopped up flattie six, but two out of two engines i have both have bad blocks.i don't want to sub-frame it unless i have to. thanks

    an early Hemi would certinly fit nicely, and should mate to your original 3spd trans
