    1951 Ford F-1 Front Brakes

    I just bought a 1951 Ford F-1 P-U and a extra cab for $200 on Saturday. As of Monday night it has a SBC/T350 half way mounted in. While I am working on the E&T, I thought I would check in with you guys for some info. The brake system appears to be a Bendix design and not a Huck(?) system. Is this the original type? Is there an easy swap? I want to keep the front axle and I don't mind drum brakes. However, I would go disk if there is a cheap conversion. I would like to retain the 5.5" bolt pattern. If it can't be retained than a 4.5" would be preferred.

    It would depend on the king pin diameter, but perhaps some disc brakes and spindles off about a '73 half ton Ford should work. If the kingpins are a different size, some sintered bronze bushings and a bit of time with the lathe should make them fit......

    I'm contemplating a disc swap on my '62 Ford pickup. The '70's Ford Twin I-beam spindles look like they should adapt on, but lots of luck finding them! Took me two years before I found mine. The newer ones use a ball-joint setup ,that won't work. I even considered joining two of those beams together and making a single out of them, but saner heads prevailed. (My brother said I was nuts.)

    Well it was a pleasant surprise to see that some parts were used for more than 2 years..

    Shoes (48-66) Raybestos 228RP
    Wheel Cyl (48-64) Raybestos WC 90980 & WC 9091 {65- used WC37083}
    Bearings Outer (48-56) BCA 09195 & 09067 {57-67 used A2}
    Bearings Inner (48-56) BCA 14276 & 14130 {57-72 used A5}
    Seal (48-56) 5827

    I can not find a Drum listing for the 51. {53-63 used Raybestos 2600 & 64-66 used p/n 1644}

    Can anyone help?

    51 ford pickup brakes

    Sacramento Vintage Ford has an extensive line of parts. (I could go broke there!) You may want to order the 48-66 Ford pickup catalog.
    They list the brakes on this page of their website:

    They also offer a full disc brake setup.

    Good luck!
