winterization
Hey, I know this has been asked a million times and been covered. The search function leaves something to be desired, turned up no results.
What would be s.o.p. for prepping a car for storage for 4-5 months. I know about the fuel. Debating putting on stands and wondering what I may not be thinking of. Running procedures during storage and stuff like that.
Thanks.

I go through this every year. You want to fill the gas tank as well a fuel stabilizer, that will keep moisture out of the tank.Change your oil after the car is parked,if you start it you will contaminate the fresh oil.I f you put it on jack stands support it on the frame not the suspension. If you pull the wheels, lay the tire on its side on a piece of plywood with each tire stacked and seperated by a piece of plywood, and don't forget a good heavy coat of armorall on the sidewall and tread.Grease all your suspension fittings, check all fluids.I do all my maintence when I put my car away so come spring it's ready to go.Some people use motballs to guard against mice,I have found that Bounce dryer sheets work just as well and smell a whole lot better!Put one under each seat,on the carpet,in the trunk and come spring the car wiil smell like new and still have the stuffing in the seats.
And don't forget a trickle charger for the battery(out of the car).
Hope that helps.Last edited by Hemi31; 11-25-2005 at 03:12 PM.

Thankyou kindly, not questioning you, just want to learn.
With the battery out, you obviously don't see a need to run it periodicaly?
You wouldn't want to run the fresh oil to coat surfaces?
Thanks again.

Once the motor is run it contaminates the fresh oil with acids,so no you don't want to run it.
