GM steering column parts
Happy holidays everyone! I need help. Are steering column parts such as shaft bearings available to rebuild these old GM tilt columns?

Double check with a local body shop. Because the older columns were an invitation to steal the car they were installed in, many areas have companies that sell rebuilt columns.
I guess my question would be why would you take a chance rebuilding one of these, when for $300 you can get a new column from Ididit or Flaming River, sized to fit and assembled with new parts by people familiar with what they are assembling? My opinion is that I don't want to worry about a column failure or problem while driving, especially with the potential for others to be in the car.
To me this falls into an area where corners should not be cut. JMHO.---Tom

I don't know Swifster, these colums (factory GM) are pretty simple and easy to rebuild, with all the parts needed available through GM. They are aslo pretty easy to modify (shorten) to fit almost anything.
I redid a mid 70's Chevy van tilt unit for my 37 Dodge, cost of the column, bearings etc, I was into for well under $100, knew it was the right legnth, and did it in a morning (to include shortening it). It's not the fancy chrome/stainless setup, but I wanted painted anyway. I also got a lot of satisifaction from doing it myself.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am much more concerned with getting the parts to replace the worn parts than being able to repair and assemble the column correctly. I enjoy doing my own work and have every confidence that safety will not be an issue. Saving money for paint and upholstery is. Man that red paint is high!

"Man that red paint is high!"
Found that out did you. Red always was/is one of my favorites, and as the guy at the paint store gleefully points out every time I buy some, its the most expensive (short of the exotics) to buy.
And a Happy Birthday Wish for Mr. Spears. Hope you can have a great one. :)
