    MSD 6al timing light question

I have an msd 6al ignition box on my 73 nova, my current timing light (an Equus inductive timing light) reads a higher timing then what is set. Can anyone suggest a timing light that will read accurately and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

462" Buick with Mallory Unilite vac adv distributor and MSD 6AL.

My Sears Penske timing light (standard model) reads right on as confirmed by static timing the engine.

I tried a Sears Penske dial-back style timing light and it read 20 degrees off - I think on the retard side, but don't quote me.

I've mentioned this on other boards and the replies have been that some dial-back lights don't read right and others do.

The dial-backs are nice, but a degreed balancer - which I now have - or a timing tape will do it.

I agree I tried using the dial back timing lights on my MSD and when I use it the timing jumps all over the place when I dial it back. When I put it on zero it works just fine. I think those multiple sparks mess the light up when using dial back.
