Mallory Mk II wiring schematic / help
I recently changed the intake on my 1963 thunderbird... The project actually began as a valve adjustment and I found a layer of slime in the valve covers. (ethyl-glycol and water) given few places it might come from and not finding evidence of water in the oil, it was a no-brainer, the intake manifold had to be leaking.
It was. But things are never quite this simple... In the process of tear down, match porting a new intake and reassembly I lost track of the ignition wiring. OK I really didn't change anything except the lead from the negative side of the coil to the tach and the negative side of the coil and the distributor. (I thought)...
Upon reassembly I found a loose wire off what appears to be an electronic controller unit that is mounted on the inner fender. It is part of the Mallory Mk II system that the coil, a traditional square mallory coil mounts to.
The unit is black and has a square plug on the top on the left side, and a single spade connector on the right. The spade connector wire has a round eye terminal on it. I do not recall taking the terminal off. It is too small to mount to the positive or negative side of the coil.
The wire and terminal are of the size and length to mount to the ballast resistor and it makes sense that the terminal would get or send power to somewhere. I don't want to hook it up wrong, as this system seems to work really well and I'd hate to fry it.
Is anyone familliar with the Mallory Mk II? I've been to the Mallory site and they don't have the Mallory Mk II information there.Michael

never mind...
The overwhelming need to slove this problem was overshadowed by the reality that once I fixed it I would still have a Mallory Mk II ignition system...
I took the advice I give everyone who asks me what they should do. Put in an MSD. That I had a spare 6A on the shelf and a set of 10 mm Taylor wires on hand made the decision that much easier...Michael
