    57 Chevy Project Update

It has been awhile since my last post. Work and other issues have held me up.

This post is just a short one. Later this week I have more details with photos. Also, I have saved a few questions I will post as individual questions.

    Update:

Finally got the car taken apart. Parts were bagged and numbered. The photos are before and after the blasting process.

Sand blasting went very well. The blaster was told to go easy and if necessary leave any bondo rather than force blast it out. The result was well worth the money.

Naturally, more problems than I had originally identified were exposed. The left full quarter panel needs to be replaced. The right lower quarter panel will need sheetmetal patching.

The big problem with both panels is a bow outward around the wheels. I am guessing a baseball bat was used to pry the panel out so that larger tires would work. This is causing the replacement of a full quarter and the lower quarter.

Two areas in the trunk will be patched due to custom trunk interior that will cover the trunk area.

Interior floor had been patched and needs very little work.

There has been a big change in how this car will be built. Recently one of the rod shops here contacted me and wants to "save me from myself" and help build the car. I had been visiting this shop over the past year while I was planning the project. it is one of those shops that produces show quality work.

As an additional bonus members of the local Classis Chevy Club have also offered to contribute to the process.

If you recall this was not the direction I had planned to go in. This is a driver and I did not think show quality work was in the plan. To make a long story short we have reached an agreement that will put me in the shop working on the car with guidence from the shop staff.

Access to his shop, tools, and everything I need will be provided. Of course the critical areas that require their experience will be handled by the shop, e.g., quarter panel replacement.

The name of the shop is Rods & Customs in Rosenberg, Texas. When the work begins I will post more detail about this arrangement and how it is working out.

From what I see I can only post one picture per email. Is this correct?

More will be posted later this week while I am stuck on a Super-8 hotel in Kountze, TX.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
