Don't use sheet metal, use aluminum......find some good study aids for fabricating and study a lot before you even start building.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

too heavy, looks tacky. I like the polished or brushed aluminum better. JMOYesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

20 ga - 18 ga steel, paint it up nice.
Stay away from pop rivets, but if that's what you got to use, just use a bunch of them, and don't skimp on the reinforcement washers. Lots of little 1/4" zap screws would hold it nice, and give it an 'in your face' fabrication look. Spot welds would give it a clean look, just use a bunch of them. ( drill holes then weld them in, grind them smooth )
Use at least three inner ribs along with the two outer cap ribs. Hammer forming can give you exceptional quality on your pieces.
Use epoxy along with the fasteners.
If you bolt down to a trunk lid be sure to reinforce the attatchment points from the inside. If that thing comes off at speed, it could be tragic..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
