Yes, that is a pressure type blaster, not an old syphon feed. They work surprisingly well, because there is air pressure forcing the sand from the red canister into a Tee valve where the high pressure blast picks it up to blow out the nozzle. They work very good, far more consistent and heavier flow of blasting sand while they are operating.----You do need a fairly big 6 to 9 CFM compressor (2 cylinder) to run one, or you spend a lot of time waiting for your compressor to "catch up"Old guy hot rodder

Yep, I have that same model. It works pretty well, but if the outside air is humid and the sand gets damp, it will jam up. A water filter on your compresser is a must, and a dryer is better.
For large objects such as frames, a blaster of that size is pretty small, and will take a long time. I used it on my rear axle housing and other miscellaneous parts, but I gave up on the frame and had it professionally blasted. Also, be prepared to clean up a LOT of blasting media.Jack

I've got one of the old siphon feed blasters that holds a quart of sand in its own container. Last year I sandblasted 2 wheels for the roadster pickup with it, and it darn near become a career ----it blows a spot about the size of a dime----took all friggin weekend.Old guy hot rodder

Denny---This old world has its share of "users" in it. Every time it happens to me, I am hurt, and angry, and surprised by it. The worst thing is, there is no defence against that kind of thing, unless you pull in your head like an old turtle and refuse to help/share anything with anybody, and that just ends up hurting yourself.Old guy hot rodder

Also, invest in a paper suit and buy a good hood for over your head, the one with the clear window in front to see out of.
That sand gets into places you won't imagine on your body, ears, eyes, etc.
Learned the hard way. Now I look like a spaceman when I blast.

On the subject of blasting, this discussion just came up because my Son's '29 and my '39 are nearing the stage where we want to start prepping the bodies. His body is mint, rust wise, and mine has only slight pitting from surface rust, so we are thinking about media blasting.
We have always used traditional sandblasting, but don't want to do that this time, because the professional sandblasters in this area are better suited to boat trailers and car frames. They would attack the bodies with the same gusto, we are sure.
We will probably have to trailer the bodies to some bigger city, like Tampa, or Miami, and are just curious, what are the things that are currently being used to blast paint and surface rust off of bodies? We have heard of plastic media, corncobs, soda, etc. We don't want to dip them, because of the cost.
What experience have some of you had with the various methods?

Hey Denny, thanks for posting the diagram, I was actually thinking of buying it from Rob, But glad I know the story now. That is truely sad. I have been following his rod build, now I am not sure I want to follow the finish. Hes not the "genius" he thinks. if he has to steal ideas and pass them off as his own.1949 Plymouth Club Coupe Still in pieces.

hey Denny,
what would you charge me for one of you new sand blast set ups? I have little time to get all that together and built and I would like to just have one ready to go. I am just wanting a nice little system to use at home for mostly smaller jobs. I am gonna probably start a project here soon.

k, I 'll give it a shot. And thanks for the help with the diagram. I am not the most clever bonehead on the planet and find that I am better letting the guys who have been there and done that teach me the best way.

DennyW, you mean there are sharks in the ocean? Really? The same sort of thing happens in science sometimes so you need to get a new theory or idea in published form and even then other folks sometimes ignore the prior work and rediscover the idea. This only happens about 5% of the time since most folks in the community know what is going on and act as anonymous referees. By the way I have a very little consulting business and I want to sell a piece of software but I need a ICON/LOGO to put on the program. Since you made my neat avatar for the Forum here, can you tell me where to find out how to design an ICON from scratch using a scanned image? Is there an Internet site or a book that tells you how to do that. By the way thanks again for the neat Model A diagrams you sent several months ago, they are helpful for setting up my seat height.

I put this on before, and had a few guys build it. They replied that it works very well.
