Fuse Box
Would any fuse box work on my 49 plymouth? I am going with a 76 Apsen slant 6, radio, horn, lights, wiper and blinkers. Just the basics. What would be the best fuse box to pull from the junkyard? Would any manufacturer work or will I need to stay specifically plymouth aspen due to the engine?1949 Plymouth Club Coupe Still in pieces.

Practically any fuse box would work, but if the Aspen is like my '75 Duster you'll be limited in circuits and Mopar was still using ammeters which are a major pain to switch to voltmeter. You will also have to consider bulkhead connectors and all of the other connections. If you don't have much electrical experience it might be wiser to go with an aftermarket wiring harness. In any case I'd rewire the whole car as I suspect the wiring in the '49 leaves a lot to be desired and the last thing you want to do is burn it down because of a cobbled up wiring harness.Ken Thomas

Could not agree more. Personally, I'd take a carefull look around to find one that will work best. As has been mentioned some boxes are actually 2 pieces, with the back half serving as the bulk head connector for the underhood wiring, often requiring an odd shaped hole in the fire wall to fit.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

You can find complete wiring kits thru various vendors for less than $300 with a fuse box, all the wiring you'll need and all the connectors. Wiring is not a place to play with junkyard parts due to corrosion.---Tom
