Brake issues
The other day, while test driveing my truck after rebuilding the motor. ( 1968 chevy pick-up truck, 327) Went to stop at stop sign. No brakes. Pushing the padel was like pushing air. So I whip it into a driveway and and into thier back yard. LOL. I was just down the st. from my house. So I drove it back in reverse useing my parking brake. When I started checking things out I found the ajusting piece that serws on the rod from the padel to the master cil. had come off. Some one had put a power boster on the truck and the rod was to short. They only had the rod about half way in and the backing nut was loose. It had mess up the ajuster and the rod. So what I done was take off the power boster. I took the ajuster and rod off my other truck (67) which had no power boster. And put it in my 68. As far as I can tell, the trucks are the same. However, The padel will not spring back like it should. And the brakes don,t feel right. I use the same master cil. that was bolted to the boster. My question is, are the master cils. the same weather you have a power boster or not. And whay would the brake padel not want to come back like it should. Ofcouse I,m going to put a new master cil on, bleed and ajust brakes and if nessasary put an other spring on padel. But I would like to get some thoughts on this issue. I would like to know if thier are some things I should be aware of about these old brake systems. And some things I should be thinking about. The truck has drum brakes front and back. Thanks, John.John

i'm pretty sure the master cyilinders designed for use with the power boosters are going to need one to work right. With the vehicle being four wheel drum brakes, you can really benefit from the extra power of the booster. I'd say just fix the rod problem and go back to running the booster..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
