    liscence plate light replacement socket

My '51 Chevy has a bad socket for the liscense plate light, last year I put a self grounding push in replacement socket in ( let it sit right inside the old socket ), but I had to bend out the tabs and use tin foil to make it ground, and now it does not work any longer due to rust forming where I grounded it, so I'm seeking new replacement sockets that will work, I found these that ron francis makes, and it can take an 1155 bulb even tho it is made for an 1157 but they are interchangable, i would need a 6v equivlent of the 1155 because the glass is much shorter compared to the 1157. I went out to the tail light panals I got from the '83 240D I had, because I knew they had 1155 bulbs and 1157 bulbs and I made shure they interchanged. these sockets are expensive, 17.95 a peice, but I found these, I think could also work, also made by ron francis but these take a 1077, and I'm not shure how tall the glass on a 1077 is. any suggestions

Switch the whole thing over to 12 volts and you'll have lights you can see with, and be seen!!! Six volt systems weren't any good when they were new!!!!

I would switch over but, it works fine the way it is, and I don't have the budget to convert it. the lights are actully bright. I'd also like to keep the generator and a new generator rebuilt for 12v is just over 100 bucks. plus 6v is somthing that is not seen very often, as long as I can get 6v stuff, I'll keep it.

thanks for the link denny, read the PDF for C63 and that is what came in my car, 3/4 inch diamater at the widest for the globe and 1/1/4" high, as long as I can follow this, I should be able to find a bulb to fit, which I think a 6v equivalent of an 1155 will work, they didn't list an 1155 so I don't know it's 6v equivalant, but the parts store should

I think a 1157 size bulb will fit anyhow, the 1154A bulb is listed as 21.4 candlepower. which 1 of the 2 replacement sockets should I get? the top 1 is 17.95 and made from billit aluminum and the bottom 1 is 9.95 and made of steel, do u think the top 1 would work better because it screws tight?

I see, so should I get the 1154A if I have limated space under the liscense plate light lense? or is the regular 1155/1154 the same height, just wider?
