chevy 10 bolt question
I have a chevy 10 bolt (8.2) under my car. I am in the middle of building a new motor but I am wondering what kind of horsepower/torque this rear end can handle.

Depends on the weight of the car, 4 speed or automatic, tranny brake or drive off the converter... If it's a heavy car (over 3,000 pounds) and more then 300 hp running something other then street tires, better start looking for a 12 bolt or a 9" Ford..... it'll break eventually.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

its a 39 chevy coupe with a 383 TPI. I am running street tires on standard 8" wide rims. The car has a 4 speed automatic with a non-lock torque converter. I drive the car pretty mildy but every once in a while like to get on it. I have a posi unit for the 8.2 right now but have not installed it. I don't know if the posi unit will actually make things worse or not.
I'd love to put a 12 bolt in the car but narrowing the rear end isn't in my wallet right now.

Yup, what Denny said. I doubt you will hurt it. The posi won't have any effect on how long it lasts. I would imagine it will smoke the tires long before it does any damage to the 10 boltYesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
