GM Shock Plate Torque Spec
I lost my factory book in Katrina -
Has anyone converted mono to multi-leaf on a 69 Nova?
I need a t-bolt and shock stud torque spec please and - and the rant follows . . .
Third time changing leaf springs.
First set were different spring rates from Scotts and the rear-end was downhill 12 -15 degrees.
Then my 'do it cheap' machinist bud added 2 leaves to the old monos - mounted well but make lots of squeaking noise and one broke down on the trip to Houston.
SO - I bought a set from PST (Eaton springs) and a mono-to-multi conversion kit. The only good thing in the kit, in my opinion, are the longer t-bolts and nuts.
PST sent rubber lower pads only!
The pads (labeled lower) only fit the upper stud as the center bolt is inverted on the multi springs,(studs are on the bottom on monos to fit the shock plate hole), center nuts on the bottom, and lower pad won't fit over the nut.
They sent a 2 1/2 inch mild steel pad to accommodate up the center bolt on top as the spring should fit flush against the axel plate, but no upper pads were sent.
And what in the heck would I use only TWO u-bolts for?
I've got to be missing something here!!!!
My plan is to invert the center bolt so the stud is on the bottom as should be to align in the shock plate hole!
That will put the nut on top.
Then redrill the plates to fit over the nut on top, and buy some upper pads.
