    chevelle wiring help!!

I am working on assembling a 1970 Chevelle SS convertable 454 at work that came into our shop in boxes. We have the car mostly put together, the motor is running, but there are a few wiring issues. The biggest problem is that the alternator is charging way too much, about 16 amps. The other problem is that none of the gauges are working, and everything behind the cluster is plugged in. I am not sure if there is a ground missing from the harness, but so far I am at a loss as to what is causing this. If anyone knows these cars pretty well and has any ideas, I would really appreciate any help a lot!! Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes, i meant volts, sorry. Pretty much everything is brand new on the car, but that is not to say it might not still work. It is a new battery, the voltage regulator is new, alternator new, etc... All the fuses are good, and there is power at the dash panel. Another thing is that the alternator is getting really warm. I am going to go through some more wiring tomorrow to double check everything again. Thanks for the help, any little bit helps!

What Denny said on the charging and gauge lights. Also, most of the GM cars in that era have a lousy ground system in the dash, might end up jumper wiring back to the fuse block main ground.....
