    Steering column help...

I'm using a Chevrolet tilt steering column (non-airbag) in my '38 Ford Pickup. Any place where I can find directions as to how to modify as needed the column, what extra parts I will need, and how to install?

    Thanks, DaveM

For as many of these as I've done I have never seen instructions. What I have done is go to shows and see what others have done. You may wind up having to make your own or modify the firewall bracket. The new column may not even go through the firewall at the same locayion as the stock one. You should wind up with one mount on the dash and one on the firewall. after that its what ever fits You may have to add extra U joints and not use the rag joint. Hope this hog pog helps and good luck

First off, KEEP THE RAG JOINT if you can. Otherwise you'll feel every pebble in the road in your fingers, and if you bump a curb, it'll jerk the wheel out of your hands. As far as hooking it up to your steering box, use steering universal joints. Look in the catalog from Classic performance Products. They have the right components to hook it up correctly and safely. I had the same problem with a 52 Ford cab on a Chevy S-10 frame with a Cadillac steering column. Originally, the column went through the floor at the frame, and I had to route my new column through the firewall. I called CPP, gave them the information, and they sent me the correct pieces for a quick bolt on. $69 for the joint, $19 for the shaft. It's a lot easier than trying to piece it together from junk yard parts.
