Where Do I Get Good Sanding Discs??

We have a 12 inch disc sander that I bought my Son for Christmas a couple of years ago, and really like it (its one of those SHARE gifts ) but we haven't been able to find a source locally for high quality sanding discs for it.

I like Norton stuff, and have looked around, but no one carries this size around here, and even websites haven't been a lot of help. The ones we have been buying only last a few minutes then either go dull or shred.

I wouldn't mind mail ordering a box, but looking for a brand and source that some of you have used. There has to be some high grade industrial disc out there. Oh, I need the sticky backed self-adhesive ones.

    Thanks,

    Don

Thanks Pat and Denny. Exactly what I have been looking for. When they open on Tuesday I plan to put in an order for some 40. 50, and 100 grit discs.

Know what you mean about flying shrapnel. Been hit in the chest and faceshield many times. Kind of goes back to that safety thread Hotroddaddy posted about a week ago. Face shields are a pain, especially when you are sweating, but are absolutely necessary if you want to save your eyes and face.

    Thanks again,

    Don

One day I turned on my chop saw to cut something, and luckily I bent down to pick up something and the spinning cut off wheel exploded. Took the top out of the wheel cover and pieces flew right past my ear. I must have nicked the cut off wheel and set up a fracture in it.

I now turn it on and walk way to the side until it is up to speed.

Never spoken to you, but do you have a rather "high pitched voice?"

Welding sparks down the shorts will get your attention real quick, too.

    Don -

For years I have bought the abrasives I use in my little company (many different types, including sticky-back discs) from R.S. Hughes Company. They may be the largest distributor for 3M and they have bunches of stores, but not, unfortunately, in the Ft. Myers area. They do have facilities in Tampa and Miami and may be listed in your phone book for call-in orders.

For me, they have been great people to do business with and I'm not hesitant to recommend them.

    Jim
