Out of round rear brake drums

I parted a car that had new brake drums on the rear and when I got around to needing them they are terribly out of round and what could possibly make them get that way,and could they be making a slight vibration going down the road. I did have a bad U joint causing a terrible vibration but that has been fixed but I still feel a slight vibration comming from the rear and was wondering if the drums could be causing that. Jeff

yes they would hit the shoes but the shoe can move some on the backing plate but not to much and i would think they would jump a bit so maybe how off are they?

if its vibrating without your foot on the brake then its probably not the drums.

I also wondered about the rims but when I had new tires installed they said nothing about a rim being bent when they were balanced but it needs drums as it shakes the car a bunch when the brakes are applied. JEff

if it viberate with the brakes applied then it drums. if you don't know if its front or rear, with the car rolling along pretty good pull up on you hand brakes, and if it viberates that will mean you rear drums are bad. if you don't feel it, it means your front rotors/drums are out of round. don't lock the hand brake up, just a little pressure will do.

I have two new drums on order and if the vibration is still there I will look into a bent rim or axle,I never had this car over 60 before I changed the motor and trans so I dont know if its always been there. It has 170,000 miles on it and who knows where it came from and who owned it during its life and since it has that many miles I might use the axles fron the parts car since it only had 56,000 miles and the bearings should be better plus the parts car sat since 72 so there would be less of a chance that the axles would be bent.
