    Angry Seat Belt Installation

Has anyone had problems installing retractable shoulder/lap seat belts to the point that it's tough to get the belt to release from the retract position?

It seems to me that when you want to put the belt on - like everytime you drive the car - the belt should release smoothly from the retract position to reward you for wanting to wear the belt. I'm tired of fighting my belts! Pull a couple of inches and it locks up; let it go back a fraction of an inch and pull two more inches before it locks up again. Fighting the belt to put it on is not conducive to encouraging someone to wear their belt!

Sounds like you need a new belt retractor. Even without the new retractor, no good reason to not wear a seat belt...........

on what kind of car? I replace alot of the ones inside the back rest of seats for a couple of dealerships in town, they do go bad, a few just need a little cleaning with air and a little shot of silacone on the rachet gear,it's a good idea just to replace for your own safety!!

Chyslers have problems with butyl rubber tape on the panels melting into the seat belt and retractor assy. causing them not to work properly or bind up.
If I knew anything I'd be dangerous.

Thanks, guys!! These belts came from JC Whitney and they weren't cheap. But they didn't come with mounting instructions either! Denny, I don't know where your dredged up those instructions, but I think they may do the trick!
