Diagnosing lock up torque converter inoperation
The vehicle in question is my sisters 92 geo tracker and she is up from florida and I am trying to fix some problems her mechanic down there could not repair,it had a strange electrical problem as when the brake was applied it was sending voltage to the ignition curcuit and it was the 4 wires going to the stop light switch that were melted togather with the two for the lock up converter being the wires that melted into the stop light wires. I got them repaired and took it for a drive and the lock up convertor does not work, she has had a couple trans put in and had stop light switch problems and I dont know if it happened when the trans went bad or when they were replaced. What I need to know is how to I tell if the relay is bad and is there a way to bypass the relay with a toggle switch to see if I can get the convertor to lock up as the trans is still under warranty,I am getting power to the relay from the ignition switch and from the stop light switch to unlock the convertor.
