    I'm calling it "old spirit"

it's been quite some time since i posted any news about my olds 350 into my '79 amc i'll bet you all thought i'd been scared off by the absurdity of the whole project. not me. i'm too dumb to know it cant be done. the 350 is out of the donor and sitting on a homemade dolly so i can scoot it around. the tired 258 comes out this weekend (damn its hot here in the inland northwest, 104 f ,hotter tomorrow) lots of issues keep rearing their ugly heads as i measure here and there. i actually have sufficient room for the engine itself, it's just the little crap like the radiater from the donor being about a foot too wide to fit within the frame. i don't remember which one of you guys said it, but you are right on about "it's gonna cost more than you think, and the little stuff will drive you bonkers." the new cam gets ordered today along with all that goes with it. my local parts guy really helped me a lot deciding what's best. nothing too radical, but i do want some "rump rump" at idle (never done a push rod cam, but it's onlya 474 lift and 284 duration and my motor head friends tell me thatts mild enough that i should'nt have to degree it. ) i will take the recommendations that come with the cam. the cam is from dela engineering in tacoma, wa, the same firm that i got the cam for my mini stock race car.
