Where to Find Parts Bags / Hardware Bags?
When working on a car, I hate trying to keep track of all the nuts, bolts and screws that come off. I used to work aircraft maintenance with the Air Force and we had these parts bags in different sizes. The bags were drawstring and had a big piece of paper attached to the bottom seam that you could write on (how many screws are in the bag, what it came off of, and when). You could use the drawstring to tie the bag to the part you just removed.
I know there has to be a civilian version, if not the same thing, out there, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where I might find these bags? It's not really work unless you'd rather be doing something else!

I use the so called "zip-lock-bags". Can be bought here in Germany in every supermarket. Originally it will be used for deep freezing food.
They have a white stripe on the translucent material which can be marked with every ordinary ball-point pen.Frank

I have to agree with the judge on this, and I don't always agree with judges!
when I work on customer stuff and on my own cars, I buy a box of sandwish
bags for screws and smaller stuff and the bigger bags for the larger things,
then I mark everything with a magic marker to where it goes, I even keep
all the doors screws and stuff sepurate, then I put all the bags in a box,it so much easyer and it lets me know if I'm short a screw or something,(I know we have all been there!)

You are correct that freezer bags will work. However, I'm trying to find these bags which are made of fabric like canvas. They are sturdier than a plastic bag and don't rip as easily (I'm not saying freezer bags rip easy, just that these bags rip less so). There are also about a dozen other bag alternatives to storing nuts and bolts, which I'm sure are just as effective.
Anyways, I'm trying to find these types of bags in particular. I'm not looking for alternatives, nor am I knocking them. If anyone has seen them and know how to get a hold of them, please let me know. Thanks for checking out the thread. It's not really work unless you'd rather be doing something else!

We have them here at work. I work at an aerospace firm and we use them out in the hangar to keep track of hardware. I'll see if I can get the name and contact info of a supplier for you and post it later.

I use manila envelopes found at office supply stores. You can buy various sizes for various size parts and they are easy to write on. Very small parts, screws etc I use small standard envelopes.
